Jesus is God who came to the world as a man to overcome sin and the penalty of sin because of His great love for us. He came by choice, He came because He wanted to, and He came because He wanted you. Only the work of Jesus creates a bridge between us and God the Father. He is real, He is alive, and He can be known by you. That is why He came; to form a real relationship between you and Father God.
The penalty of sin is death. Jesus looked at us and saw that we could never pay that debt in full. He came to the earth that He created and took our place and paid that debt in full! The debt for sin has been paid for you. Because He did this for us, we are a new creation and walk in complete freedom from the consequences of sin.
The Bible says that without the shedding of blood there is no forgivness (Hebrews 9:22). We are all guilty of committing sin and owe our own blood as payment for that sin. Even though we are guilty, Jesus did not want to leave us in shame nor did He want us to pay that payment ourselves. This is why Jesus came and shed His own blood in our place. In 1 John 1:7 we read that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. The penalty of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). It is the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin and makes us right before God and brings us into a real relationship with Him. Jesus literally bought our lives!
Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:15
Yes you can! The reason He came was to bring us into a place of relationship with Him. That is why He suffered and why He rose from the dead. The Bible says that sin seperates us from God, but He pleads with us to be reconciled to Him (2nd Corinthians 5:20). He did it because that is what He wanted to do, He did it because of love, He did it because His heart was willing to give all so He could have all of you. He wanted to be with us, not seperated from us. His work on the cross bought an eternity with Him so we didn't have to spend eternity away from Him.
Wherever you are, whatever you have done, wherever you have been, you can begin a relationship with him right now. It's no coincidence that you are here. He led you here. He led you here to meet with Him. We just have to open our heart and say yes to Him. Consider praying this prayer to take some of your first steps in getting to know your God. Even if you want to recommit yourself to Him, pray with us.
Lord Jesus, I come to you standing in a place of need. I need you. I need you in my life. I need you in my heart. I need to know you. I need to know you as saviour. I need to know you as friend. I need the freedom that only you can provide. I need your guidance and your direction. I need your blood to wash me and cleanse me from my sin. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I acknowledge my guilt. I have sinned against you, the one holy God. Lord, I repent and turn from my sin. I call upon you for help in overcoming sin and bad habits. Set me free, for who the Son sets free is free indeed. I open my heart to you. Now Lord, I ask you to open my eyes and ears to see you and to hear you. I believe in you. I believe that you died on the cross. I believe that you rose three days later. I believe that you came and did all of this for me because you love me. I receive your love and I receive the work you did on the cross. Make me new. Set me free. Reveal yourself to me in a greater way than I have ever imagined. I believe in my heart that Christ Jesus died for me and takes away all of my guilt and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. Thank you for saving me. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
